Mie Goreng Wijen [ Indonesian Fried Noodle with Sesame Sauce ]

This is one of my favorite recipes for potluck night. Its easy to make and it is very versatile. You can substitute the meat and the veggies with whatever you have in the fridge.

4 Shallots
4 garlic
a slice of fresh ginger
150 gr diced chicken breast
250 gr shrimps, peeled and deveined
1 Tsp ground white pepper
1 Tsp chicken powder broth (or salt to taste)
1 Carrot, juliened
2 Tbsp oyster sauce
2 Tbsp chinese soya sauce
2 Tbsp Sesame oil
2 Tbsp Ketjap manis
½ cup of chopped cabbage (optional)
½ red bell pepper, diced (optional)
½ yellow bell pepper, diced (optional)
a cup of beansprout
1 scallion, chopped, for decoration
+ 200 gr egg noodle, boiled (or you can use yet-ca mein noodle from the asian store)

1. Paste shallot and garlic, then sauté on a large size wok.
2. Once the sauté become fragrant, add ginger in,chicken and shrimp. Cook in medium heat until the chicken half cooked then add white pepper, chicken broth, carrot, oyster sauce, soya sauce, sesame oil and ketjap manis. Toss gently. Cover the wok and let the carrot softens
3. Add the noodle, cabbage and bell peppers and stir well. Cook for another 5 minutes.
4. Once the noodle ready, turn off the heat and add beansprout. Toss gently.
5. Serve with chopped scallion and swirly omelette.

Swirly pancake omelette:
3 large eggs
1 scallion, finely chopped
1 Tsp chicken broth (or salt to taste)
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 Tsp of oil to fry

1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
2. Heat a lightly oiled non-sticking flat pan (pancake pan) over medium high heat. Pour the egg mixture as if you are making a flat thin pancake. Your pancake omelette is ready when it starts to brown on the bottom.
3. Put the omelette on a chopping board. Roll it gently and cut it with a very sharp knife. (watch out, it might be hot! or you can wait until it cools down.
4. Your omelette swirls is ready to be put as decoration!

Happy cooking!

PS: you can use any meat and vegetables for the noodle
